Favorite Quotes:

“When Erik spoke to me, his words were just as sweet and playful as always. His touch was just as gentle and loving as ever. But half the time, while he was physically there with me, his mind was somewhere else. “
“In reality, all Talia had to do was exist for me to want her, to desire her, to love her beyond compare.”

“Even in her darkest moods, Talia had the uncanny ability to bring light into my life. Only fear kept the barriers in place. Fear of adding to her pain. Fear of my darkness engulfing her, taking her down with me.”

“Since the very first day I met Talia, she had that effect on me. Part of me wished I’d waited to experience all the physical stuff with her for the first time. The rest was all a waste of my time. Even though I didn’t know her back then, and she wasn’t always mine, I should have been more patient while waiting for the love of my life to come along.”
“Seeing her eat, and enjoy her food, made me happy. It was a small thing, but it gave me hope. Maybe, just maybe, Penny was starting to put the past behind her. To put the torture she’d endured at Mac’s hands behind her.”
“Since being infected with the Creation drug, I appreciated how much it screwed with your head. It took any whisper of a feeling and turned it into a roaring monster. She genuinely couldn’t help it at the time.”
Goodreads Synopsis:
When Talia and Erik leave Washington after UNITED’s attack on TOXIC, they have no idea that the war has just begun. The Talented are about to lose their citizenry, their status, their entire lives.
With the Creation drug wreaking havoc on Erik, the couple relocates to Eden – an island community of Talented refugees from around the globe. Though it’s supposed to be paradise for the residents, where they can live without fear or containment, Eden turns out to be anything but.
Before the duo strikes out to save their brethren, they must first help an old ally who’s proven to be an enemy in the past. But what consequences will they face for doing so? And what will happen when a ghost materializes with an ulterior agenda?
New alliances will form. Truths will be revealed. And the lives of all of the Talented will be forever changed.
It’s go time.
My Review:
5/5 stars
When this was originally set to be released, it was a novella called “Unforgettable”, however, Sophie Davis had so many ideas to incorporate into their novella, that they decided to change the title and make it into a novel. I’m personally ecstatic they did this.
I really liked that this book was unique compared to the others in the series. Marked actually gives some background to events that took place at the beginning and end of Exiled. It provides readers with a bigger picture as to what is going on surrounding UNITED and whether or not the Treaty to recognize the Talented as citizens would be upheld. Marked gives the full picture as to what Talia and her friends were doing regarding their missions for UNITED in trying to bring Created back to the island of Eden for protection. If you recall from Exiled, Kenly only saw what happened to those Created in the news reel showing Talia and her team capturing the Created for UNITED, without knowing the full picture.
I liked that Sophie Davis changed course and alternated between two different perspectives, both Talia and Erik’s. Most books that is written from multiple characters points of view will alternate one chapter at a time. However, Marked actually varies by how many Talia chapters vs Erik chapters.
This novel also explores characters mental stability/instability regarding everything they have been through until this point, ie Talia, Erik and Penny. Marked has been, by far, my favorite book in the Talented Saga. You’ll see some people from Erik and Talia’s past; and decisions made that will have a dire impact on Talia and Erik’s future.
I absolutely recommend this book to anyone who has enjoyed the Talented Saga thus far.
Happy Reading!
