Hey readers!!
Great news! I have received a few books this month (May 2018) from publishers and publicists to review! I am so excited to be doing this! I feel as though my blog has become more legitimate now that I get to review books.
Here are the books I will get to review!!!
Book Title: The Moment Before Drowning
Author: James Brydon
Publisher: Akashic Books
Number of pages: 239
Genre: historical fiction, mystery
Release Date: July 3rd 2018
Goodreads Synopsis:
In 1959, a French Resistance hero investigates a murder in a small Breton town, while awaiting his own trial.
December 1959: a furious anti colonial war rages in Algeria. Captain Jacques le Garrec, a former detective and French Resistance hero, returns to France in disgrace, traumatized after two years of working in the army intelligence services, and accused of a brutal crime.
As le Garrec awaits trial in the tiny Breton town where he grew up, he is asked to look into a disturbing and unsolved murder committed the previous winter. A local teenage girl was killed and her bizarrely mutilated body was left on display on the heathland in a way that no one could understand.
Le Garrec’s investigations draw him into the dark past of the town, still haunted by memories of the German Occupation. As he tries to reconstruct the events of the girl’s murder, the violence and guilt intertwine with his own recollections of Algeria and threaten to submerge him.

Book Title: We Are the Clash: Reagan, Thatcher, and the Last Stand of a Band That Mattered
Author: Mark Anderson, Ralph Heibutzki
Publisher: Akashic Books
Number of pages: 400
Genre: music, politics, history, pop culture, nonfiction
Release Date: July 3rd 2018
Goodreads Synopsis:
The Clash was an incendiary paradox of revolutionary conviction, musical ambition, and commercial drive. We Are The Clash is a gripping tale of how the band–fractured by its Top 10 success–fought to reinvent and purify itself as George Orwell’s 1984 loomed. This extraordinary effort crashed headlong into a wall of internal contradictions, personal tragedy, and rising right-wing power as personified by Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher.
While the world teetered on the nuclear abyss, British miners waged a life-or-death strike, and tens of thousands died from US guns in Central America, Clash cofounders Joe Strummer and Paul Simonon set out to rebuild the band after ejecting guitarist Mick Jones and drummer Topper Headon. Bolstered by co-conspirators Bernard Rhodes and Kosmo Vinyl, and three twentysomething recruits–drummer Peter Howard and guitarists Nick Sheppard and Vince White–The Clash launched a desperate last stand, shattering the band just as its controversial final album, Cut the Crap, was emerging.

Book Title: The Last Straw (Pigeon-Blood Red #2)
Author: Ed Duncan
Publisher: Akashic Books
Number of pages: 227
Genre: thriller, mystery, crime, fiction
Release Date: December 2nd 2017
Goodreads Synopsis:
It started with a run-of-the-mill carjacking. An inner-city kid with no priors and no experience with a gun fumbled the ball, and the driver ended up dead.
A teenage girl witnessed the whole thing, and now a target has been placed on her back. The carjacker’s father, a notorious crime boss, is willing to move heaven and earth to prevent her from testifying, even if that means hiring a hitman to kill her.
Richard “Rico” Sanders, the best in the business, was his first choice for the job. But there was a problem. He was a “killer with a conscience” and a killer with a conscience doesn’t murder teenagers. The crime boss reluctantly turns to someone who has no such qualms, John D’Angelo. There was bad blood between him and Rico, so knowing that Rico had passed on the job, he eagerly accepted it.
Rico and the girls lawyer, Paul Elliott, form an uneasy alliance to try and protect her from the hitman. As the long-simmering feud between Rico and John D’Angelo reaches boiling point, bodies start to pile up in rapid succession… and old scores will be settled.
