Favorite Quotes:

“Bravery comes one day at a time.”

“And more than that, Bodee left me with hope. For love. For wanting someone to touch me again and to lie with me without fear as my first response. Because Bodee slept in his sneakers, because Bodee asked for a kiss instead of just taking it, and because he kept space between us. He danced with two fingers until I asked for three or four… and his hand on my hip. I know we’re both still broken. Both of us. But Bodee’s got the glue to make us whole.
He is love.”

Goodreads Synopsis:

An edgy, realistic, and utterly captivating novel from an exciting new voice in teen fiction.

Alexi Littrell hasn’t told anyone what happened to her over the summer. Ashamed and embarrassed, she hides in her closet and compulsively scratches the back of her neck, trying to make the outside hurt more than the inside does.

When Bodee Lennox, the quiet and awkward boy next door, comes to live with the Littrells, Alexi discovers an unlikely friend in “the Kool-Aid Kid,” who has secrets of his own. As they lean on each other for support, Alexi gives him the strength to deal with his past, and Bodee helps her find the courage to finally face the truth.

A searing, poignant book, Faking Normal is the extraordinary debut novel from an exciting new author-Courtney C. Stevens

My Review:

5/5 stars

Such an amazing book. This is one of those books where you have to stop and think. This book focuses on a girls life after being sexually assaulted, and secondarily focuses on the aftermath of what occurred in Bodi’s life. This book was written very realistically, from the relationship between Alexi and her sister to her relationship with Bodee. I loved how the characters grew and found themselves throughout this story. This book was difficult to read, especially what Alexi would do in order to cope with the aftermath of what she went through, but everyone should take the time to read this story. It truly shows the strength that people have in themselves, even when they may not realize it. You also get a sense that you may not realize who is truly there for you. I would highly recommend this book to everyone.
